What is Kindergarten Clayworks?
It is a Ceramics Workshop for children ages 4.5 – 6 yrs. Scheduled within the children’s school day, I transport my studio to kindergartens and teach a small group once a week for 4 weeks. This weekly one hour workshop focuses on problem solving and the constructing complex ceramic projects simple steps.
Workshop projects are inspired by visually stimulating picture books and often include a catchy song. Children are taught not only about ceramic art, but also the importance of listening, new vocabulary words, and how to follow instructions. There is plenty of fine motor skill practice and opportunities to try something that seems very difficult.
Encouraging self-mastery, self-knowledge, and self-esteem is as vital to the workshops as building the clay projects.
